What is Wellbutrin?

This medication may also be prescribed to people who want to quit smoking. Bupropian (Zyban) can help to reduce cravings and other withdrawal symptoms associated with quitting smoking.
Important Information about Wellbutrin
If you have been on an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days do not take Wellbutrin. MAO inhibitors include furazolidone, isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine can cause a dangeroud drug interaction with Wellbutrin.
If you have seizures, an eating disorder, or if you have suddenly stopped using alcohol, seizure medication, or sedatives you should not take Wellbutrin. This medication may cause seizures, especially in patients with preexisting medical conditions.
There have been reports of some young people experiencing suicidal thoughts when first taking Wellbutrin. If you experience any similar thoughts contact your Doctor immediately.
Wellbutrin Side Effects
Along with the needed effects of Wellbutrin there are also side effects associated with this medication. Common side effects to Wellbutrin include;
- Abdominal or stomach pain
- decrease in appetite
- increased sweating
- weight loss (unusual)
Not all of the following side effects will occur but if you do experience any contact your prescribing physician;
- dry mouth
- irregular heartbeats
- shortness of breath
- trouble sleeping
- Buzzing or ringing in the ears
- headache (severe)
- skin rash, hives, or itching

The ose can be increased as it is tolerated by the patient, to ensure that they do not experience any seizures or other dangerous side effects.
Patients can receive a maximum dosage of 450mg once daily.
