What is Onfi?

Onfi is the brand name for clobazam, which is a benzodiazepine. This medication works by affecting chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced and cause anxiety. Onfi is used in combination with other medications to treat seizures caused by Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe form of childhood epilepsy that also causes developmental and behavior problems.

Important Information about Onfi

Onfi may cause you to have suicidal thoughts. You may experience worsening of mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically) and depression. If you experience this contact your Doctor immediately.

Onfi may impair your thinking or reactions. Do not drive or take part in other activities that require you to be alter until you know how Onfi will affect you.

Do not drink alcohol with Onfi, this could increase the side effects associated with this medication.

Onfi Side Effects

Along with the desired effects of Onfi there are often side effects associated with its use. Some side effects are more severe than others, require medical attention. If you experience any of the following side effects to Onfi contact your Doctor immediately;

  • Difficulty with swallowing
  • fever
  • shakiness and unsteady walk
  • unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  • Changes in patterns and rhythms of speech
  • restlessness
  • slurred speech
  • trouble sitting still
  • trouble with speaking

Other side effects to Onfi that do not require medical treatment include;

  • body aches or pain
  • decreased appetite
  • difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  • drooling
  • ear congestion
  • irritability
  • loss of voice
  • nasal congestion
  • relaxed and calm
  • runny nose
  • sleepiness or unusual drowsiness
  • sleeplessness
  • sneezing
  • unable to sleep
  • vomiting
  • wheezing

Onfi Uses

Just as with other Benzodiazepine medications, Onfi can be habit forming. Patients should follow prescription directions carefully, do not increase or decrease doses without speaking to your Doctor first.

Do not share this medication with others. The intention misuse of Onfi can be a danger to the individuals health and safety.

Onfi Dosage and Directions

The initial dose of Onfi is usually 5mg once daily for less than 30 kg in body weight and 10mg fonce daily for 30 kg or greater in body weight. On day 7 the dose will be doubled. Again this dose will be doubled on day 14 to acheive a maintenance dose. The Onfi dose will be adjusted according to the patients individual therapeutic needs.
